The virtuous path towards the sustainability of ceramic tiles and the assessment of their contribution to reducing the environmental impact today finds further confirmation thanks to the publication of the Standard ISO 17889-1:2021 “Ceramic tiling systems – Sustainability for ceramic tiles and installation materials – Part 1: Specification for ceramic tiles” by ISO (International Organization for Standardization).
The Standard establishes the sustainability requirements for ceramic tiles according to 38 environmental, economic and social criteria, becoming an operational tool that quantifies the rating achieved in a clear and transparent way, favoring a comparison in support of certification schemes and allowing designers and consumers a more informed choice.
Centro Ceramico, which took part in the Working Group for the development of the standard, can provide ceramic companies with training courses concerning the application of the Standard, knowledge of the criteria and related requirements and assistance and consultancy services for the determination of all the parameters necessary for the calculation of the final rating.
