This instrument allows an accurate determination of the true (or absolute) density of powders and solids. The use of helium as measurement medium guarantees a great accuracy, considering the small size of the atoms, which penetrate into pores and interstices of 0.25 nm in diameter. The test is carried out quickly and automatically, and allows to achieve accuracy (g/m³) up to three decimal places.

Technical features of the instrument

The Laboratory is equipped with the model Ultrapycnometer-1000, Quantachrome Instruments (USA), with the following accessories and characteristics:

• three sample holders for different volumes of sample: up to 10, 50 and 135 cm³
• possibility to carry out multiple analysis (in several cycles) to achieve a series of data which are then statistically calculated
• analysis time: about 1 min per cycle
• possibility of further purification of the sample before the analysis, with an appropriate purge operation.
