Phase 1 of the Project allowed to identify the sensors suitable for integration both within traditional building materials (plasters, mortars, bricks) and for coupling with innovative systems for structural reinforcement and consolidation (adhesives, reinforcements, FRCM). These sensors are able to measure and monitor specific parameters identified as the main indicators of the degradation taking place in the masonry (moisture content, temperature, pH and cracking/detachment).
The investigation and selection, which took place on components from different industrial sectors, went hand in hand with the formulation and characterization of lime-based, sustainable and low environmental impact mortars and plasters, which will have to interact and incorporate the dedicated sensors.
The experimentation took place on specimens and masonry models made on a laboratory scale and, at the same time, we are proceeding with tests on optical fibers coupled to FRCM (Fiber Reinforced Concrete Matrix) reinforcement systems and with the monitoring of the formation of cracks and prevention of detachment of cladding elements.
The Project MImeSIS “Smart, Sensored and Sustainable materials for historical buildings” has a partnership made up of 5 Research partners (CertiMaC, Centro Ceramico, Cnr-Istec, CIRI Center of the University of Bologna and Sis.Ter) and 7 Industrial partners (Litokol, La Banca della Calce, Sgubbi italiana, Kerakoll, Leonardo, Tenenga, Sestosensor).
