Pressure casting press

The pressure casting (PSC) is a shaping technique allowing a considerable decrease of the shaping time, in comparison with the traditional casting of a slip in plaster moulds.
Centro Ceramico has developed the application of this technique to the shaping of advanced technical ceramics, to manufacture specific components that often do not find appropriate space on the large scale industrial production.
The application of PSC to this type of materials solve the issue of lack of uniformity in the pressing and, simultaneously, it allows to shape parts with complex geometries in the almost end shape (“near-net-shape”).
This allows a remarkable saving on possible costs concerning further processing.
Furthermore PSC does not require the use of plasticizers (or in any case of organic additives) often used with the standard shaping techniques. This is very favourable, since it allows the direct setting of a sintering cycle without a phase at low temperature for removal (“burn out”) of organic additives.

Technical features of the instrument

The press, developed with the cooperation of the Company Mass, Scandiano (I), allows to house moulds for the manufacture of parts from a few centimeters up to 40 x 40 x 40 cm, at a maximum pressure of 30 MPa.
