Robinson Test

The Robinson test is aimed to assess the performance of an installed tiling and is carried out according to Standard ASTM C 627. This test method involves the installation of a tiling which is expected to actually lay, subjecting it to various mechanical stress cycles. The tiling is subjected to rolling by different types of wheels (soft rubber, hard rubber, steel) on which are applied the increasing loads. On the basis of the achieved results, it is possible to identify the best intended use of the tested product.

Technical features of the instrument

The device is composed by a support to which are connected three wheels rotating by following a circular path on the tiling sample (the tiling is intended as a building system consisting, for instance, of screed, adhesive, tiles and sealant).
Each wheel is increasingly loaded, starting from 45 kg, up to 136 kg, depending on the classification step reached by the sample. The rotating speed is 15 rev/min.
The classification is divided into 14 steps, and the test is concluded when the damage is visually noticeable.
