The competitiveness of ceramic tiles (both “Made in Italy” vs other competitor Countries, and ceramics vs competing materials) depends on many important standing out characteristics. However, the appreciation of the product on the market and the user satisfaction do not depend only on the tiles but also, and especially, on the quality of tiling, namely the installed tiles (see Package “Assistance for claims and controversies”).

For many years, Centro Ceramico puts efforts on the issues of installation and tiling, in order both to develop and recommend design and installation techniques meeting the stringent quality requirements of tiling, and to contribute to the study, development and characterisation of innovative design and installation techniques, in line with the outstanding technical and scientific development of ceramic tile and installation materials (adhesives, grouts, membranes, joints, etc.), as well as with the extraordinary range of intended uses of ceramic tiles.
Centro Ceramico deals with this issue since the 80s, and has made a fundamental contribution, in terms of technical and scientific support, to the concerning national and international standards (CEN/TR 13548:2006 “General rules for the design and installation of ceramic tiling”; UNI 11493-1:2016 “Piastrellature ceramiche a pavimento e a parete – Parte 1: Istruzioni per la progettazione, l’installazione e la manutenzione”; UNI 11493-2:2016 “Piastrellature ceramiche a pavimento e a parete – Parte 2: Requisiti di conoscenza, abilità e competenza per posatori di piastrellature ceramiche a pavimento e a parete”).
In recent years the pertaining studies of Centro Ceramico have been extended to the development of new tiling design techniques, based on the deepening of the knowledge about the correlations between the characteristics of the materials and the compliance of tiling with the requirements established in the current Standards, as well as the design and testing, in cooperation with School of Engineering and Architecture of DICAM – University of Bologna, of innovative and advanced diagnostic techniques, applicable to tiling.
These studies, to which are also associated service and assistance activities, carry on in close relation with the development of new products and new structures for tiling.

Issues such as raised floors, dry laying, installation of large slabs, tiling with complex shape and geometry, represent some of the development lines of the ceramic tile sector, which require a significant commitment to research on new materials and new techniques. The interest of Centro Ceramico will focus not only on technological development, but also on new measurement techniques, characterisation and evaluation of performance and durability.
